Type A Yoga leaving Pleasant Hill in 2014

Over the last year, we have had a number of building issues that impacted our class schedule on multiple occasions and as a result, I have been looking for a new location to alleviate these issues. We finally found a new location in downtown Martinez, and our intention is to be in both locations in January and to be fully in the new location in February.

We realize this move will not be convenient for many of our clients. We know some of you will prefer to stay in Pleasant Hill and I would rather you maintain a consistent practice and visit us than have this disrupt your regimen. Our studio has made arrangements with another local studio, Indigo Yoga and Pilates, to offer our multi-class passholders discounts in January, including a first class free and 20% off their packages. We will continue to honor any remaining classes on the multi-class passes at our new location.

We also realize that some members of our community will follow us wherever we go. In order to reward our students who have been committed and active members of our community, we are altering our pricing structure effective January 2014 to support a community support membership option...

These memberships will auto-deduct each month to provide our regular students with a variety of class options including unlimited, once a week, and family passes, as well as a number of discounts and benefit. We will also be extending our educational discounts across passes, including our one-class drop-in rate, and expanding it to include 65+. Don't worry-- we are reducing the monthly rate to more closely emulate our existing multi-class pass price range to make these options as easy and affordable as possible. Students who do not come frequently enough to justify a membership will still be able to purchase drop-in classes. Students with classes remaining on existing multi-class passes will be able to continue using them.

Our hope is that this new model will allow us to better serve our clients. From time to time we have been forced to cancel classes due to seasonal low attendance. We are well aware how inconvenient this is to those of you who are dedicated, but unfortunately have not had a choice. Moving forward, this will allow us to keep our courses convenient and accessible, even when you have to leave on a lengthy vacation or suffer an illness. I know you don't want to come home to find your class isn't here when you get back-- this option will help us keep it here for you.

This also allows us to offer services to members that we've frequently had to shelve due to limited interest, including family oriented classes and movie nights, mixers and clubs, a lending library, and discounts on private lessons and other services we have been unable to offer in our current facilities.

Sadly, this move will also be challenging for some of our staff. We are currently working on the 2014 schedule, and will keep you posted as to what changes are ahead. We also encourage you to give us your ideas and get excited about this opportunity!

Moving is rough. Change is always a challenge. However, I believe that the number of changes we frequently have to make to the schedule, whether due to facilities issues, staffing problems, or economic factors, have been harmful and disruptive to my students. I genuinely believe that this move will allow me to continue providing accessible and straightforward yoga reliably and stably to you and your family now and for years to come.

Some of you may be surprised how much you and your needs have been with me as I have been working on this transition. Many of our newer members have probably not met me, as I've been out of the studio a lot lately, but those of you who have been with us over the years know that I have a surprisingly good memory. I thought about those of you with kids at CtK, those of you who have changed jobs since we opened and have struggled to keep your practice up with your other commitments, and those of you who have been struggling to get back in after a year of absence, and a few of you who only just recently made it back in after having been gone for a year or more. I have tried to keep your needs in mind while trying to find our new location, but I know this will be a challenge for many of you.

I am leaving comments open for those of you who would like to share memories, thoughts, feelings, and questions publicly. My email address is adri@typeayoga.com for those of you who would like to reach me personally. We are committed first and foremost to spreading and maintaining the practice of yoga, and we are happy to do what we can to help you smoothly navigate this transition.

Remember that as each chapter closes, a new one begins... Continue on to the shiny new part here...

For those of you that would like to savor this chapter a little longer, allow me to start at the beginning for those of you who missed the first few pages:
Remember when... this was a scrapbook store? (Feb. 2011)
We installed the bike rack a few months later.
If these walls could talk... They'd say, "Gosh, its dark in here. Lighten up!"

FINALLY got to paint after the Use Permit was approved.
The first of the furniture. The chairs are from my backyard.
The blue thing on the table is my Chamber of Commerce plaque.
(April 2011)
The first class: a free preview for my existing Martinez students before we opened.
(Note the path to Studio B. Look Ma, no door or paint.)
The first Namaste: April 2011.
